Adding Deep Links and Embed Codes in Canvas (non LTI)

Please note: The information provided here is intended only to assist with some of the common ways our products can be integrated in this system. Our Help Site is not a comprehensive guide to use of the Canvas LMS, and our team can only assist with Credo integration; we are unable to provide support for any other aspect of Canvas's functionality. Screenshots are provided for illustrative purposes but may not exactly match your own system, particularly since navigation elements can vary depending on your version of the platform.

These instructions show ways to link to or embed Credo content using the deep links and embed codes provided on your admin dashboard. These links behave just like any other hyperlink to a web resource you might use in your Canvas course. They can be added as an external URL to your course outline, or you can add links within a text box on a content page.

This integration does not use LTI; InfoLit (formerly Instruct) customers can refer to Canvas: Adding an LTI Link to a Course for instructions on how to use LTI Links. For authentication of deep links and embed codes, you can use the options described here: Authentication Options.

Adding a URL to a Module

In your course outline, locate the Module where you'd like to add the link, and click the Add icon.

In the Add Item window, select External URL from the drop-down menu.

Copy the deep link that you want to use from your admin dashboard, and paste it into the URL field. Add the name of the content item to the Page Name box. If you'd like the content to display embedded on the page, leave the Load in New Tab option unchecked. If you'd like the page to display a link for students to open the resource in a new tab, check this option.

Click Add Item and make sure to publish it when it is ready to show to students.

Items embedded within the Canvas page will appear like this:

A Canvas page on which a Credo video is displaying in an embedded frame

If you selected the Load In New Tab option, the link will appear like this:

A Canvas page with a link to Credo on it

Adding a Hyperlink to a Content Page

You can also add a link to Credo on a content page. In the page you're editing, simply use the Link button, and paste the deep link for the content you want to link to in the URL field.

Using this option, you can create pages in your course with your own text / instructions and links out to the Credo content.

Adding an Embed Code to a Page

To use an embed code on a page rather than a hyperlink, go to the edit settings for the page, and click the HTML Editor button.

Copy the embed code you want to use from your admin dashboard and paste it into the HTML.

Save the changes. The content will be displayed on the page along with any other text that you've included.
