Authentication Options

Follow

Credo supports the following authentication options for user access to all Learning Tools products, including Information Literacy (formerly Instruct) and View:

  • IP Authentication
  • Proxy Authentication
  • Referring URL Authentication

The following additional option is available for InfoLit (formerly Instruct) only:

  • LTI Authentication

IP Authentication:

IP authentication allows users on your campus network to access Credo content seamlessly, without being prompted for log-in credentials.  Most institutions choose this authentication method for their on-campus users; it can be used alongside your chosen off-campus authentication method, such as proxy or referring URL authentication.

Credo will need to have your full list of campus IP addresses on file for this authentication method; see IP Authentication for details.

 Proxy Authentication

If your institution has a proxy server for accessing subscription resources, remote users can log in with their proxy credentials. We can provide deep links and embed codes that include your proxy prefix.

On your end, you will need to update your proxy configuration and ensure that you have an SSL Certificate set up in order to access our secure site.

For more information see EZProxy Set up or WAM Proxy Set Up.

Referring URL Authentication

If your library has a page or pages that require a password for access, such as a protected library portal or your Learning Management System, we can set up seamless access from those pages. This eliminates the need for secondary authentication via a proxy server, and thus can be useful for institutions that do not have a proxy server or have trouble using proxied links within their LMS.

See our Referring URL Authentication page for more information and set-up instructions.

 LTI Integration

If you are using an LTI integration within your LMS, the LTI connection will handle student authentication, and it will not be necessary to use secondary authentication such as a proxy on the LTI links. See LTI Integration for more information. You will still need to consider authentication options for any non-LTI links you are using.

LTI integration is available to InfoLit customers. View and SKILL Modules do not include LTI as a supported option.
